Calling all pizza oven fanatics, we know that learning how to use your first pizza oven can be a bit confusing, therefore we want to make your first experience the BEST.
We have created a comprehensive list of the essential utensils you need to make a great pizza from the comfort of your own home. It’s SO important to get the right equipment, as making the best pizzas relies heavily on the tools used.
The Essentials that We Recommend EVERY Pizza Maker Own:
First, you need a Pizza Oven. Cooking authentic wood-fired pizza no longer needs a large, permanent wood-fired oven. You can now get a very affordable pizza oven that can be packed up and stored away.
On top of that, these smaller ovens don’t need hours of firing to get hot, so can be used with much less preparation. They don’t suffer from performance either – allowing you to cook Neapolitan-style pizzas in just a matter of minutes.
Our range of Pizza Ovens are strong, built to last, low maintenance, and versatile. Thanks to the quality of our materials, all our products will last for generations and will add value to your house. Check them out here.
Once the pizza oven is ticked off the list, it’s time to get down to business. What utensils do I need for a pizza oven?
Pizza Oven Paddle Stainless Steel Peel
The most ESSENTIAL tool of all. The metal peel is great for placing your pizzas in the oven and retrieving them when they’re done. A MUST HAVE if cooking in a wood-fired pizza oven. There is no way you are reaching in there with your hand!
You can choose between two different types of peels:
- A Wooden Pizza Peel: These are less prone to getting pizza dough stuck to them, however, a wooden pizza peel is too thick to get under the cooked pizza to pull it out. They’re also hard to clean and won’t last as long as a metal peel.
- Or a Metal Pizza Peel: A metal peel’s profile allows it to slip underneath with ease. This also allows you to get underneath to spin the pizza when one side is cooking more quickly than another. They’re also super easy to maintain and clean.
At Simply Metal, we recommend our Stainless-Steel Pizza Peel (included with all our pizza ovens). We just advise you to coat it with a little flour before placing the pizza on there to prevent sticking.
Pizza Oven Paddle Silicone Handle Cover
A must-have for any Pizza Paddle! Silicone paddle handle covers add an extra layer of safety to cooking with a pizza oven.
Silicone is a great material. It’s flexible as well as strong, which makes it a great choice for Pizza Paddle Handles. It can handle temperatures of up to 450˚F, so you can confidently handle your Pizza Peels after intense heat cooking.
With superb grip and added protection, our Silicone Handle Covers are a perfect fit to use to manoeuvre your pizza paddles! Our handle covers simply slide onto the handles and make carrying your pizza paddle much easier and safer.
A Stand for the Pizza Oven
The BEST way to place your oven is on a Pizza Oven Stand.
For instance, our pizza oven legs will get hot due to the transfer of heat, so we do not recommend sitting the oven on anything flammable, such as a wooden table or wooden decking and if you DO, then it is imperative the pizza oven is on a protective barrier.
We recommend using a stand, such as our Single Pizza Oven Stand to make our oven hip height. This means you can stand your pizza oven anywhere! Apart from inside your house or close to a wooden fence. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
(Please note, our pizza oven does not come with a stand as standard. Check out our metal pizza oven and stand package here. If you require just the pizza oven stand then click here.)
Pizza Cutter
The tool used to cut your pizza into slices. There’s nothing better than a clean, streamlined cut. Using a standard knife to cut pizza often produces jagged edges on the pizza slices (a Pizza SIN!), and it’s a whole lot messier.
There are a few types of pizza cutters out there, such as the wheel cutter or the rocker blade but we highly recommend our Industrial Style Pizza Cutter. Made from high-quality stainless steel, it’s super easy to clean and durable in the long run.
Weatherproof cover
Planning to keep your oven outside? Keep your oven in great condition with a weatherproof cover.
We have a bunch of Weatherproof Covers in a variety of colours available to order if you wish to keep it outside. Whether you like grey, white, or even green, we’ve got you covered.
Without the right equipment, you won’t be able to use your pizza oven properly or to its full potential. That’s why ALL our pizza ovens come with a Pizza Peel included. Not only this, but we have a few bundles for you to choose from, including our Pizza Oven and Stand Bundle and our Pizza Oven, Stand and Cover Bundle!
Additionally, you can check out ALL our Pizza Oven Accessories here.

Great article and good advice. I have the Pizza Oven and like the idea of having the other accessories. The handle will be easier than a glove and the cover should keep it in top condition. The stand will help keep the Pizza Oven at a comfortable cooking height too.
Absolutely fantastic pizza oven, made by a British company.
