Frequently Asked Questions
We sell high-quality authentic Pizza Ovens, Fire Pits and Baking Steels. Here are a few of our FAQs about Simply Metal and our products.
How long does a pizza take to cook?
In our oven, pizzas usually take anywhere from 3-8 minutes to cook; this totally depends on your individual pizza’s size and depth! Speedy, we know!
What is the max size pizza?
The maximum pizza size that will fit in your pizza oven is 12’’.
Is it wood-fired or stone baked pizza?
Our ovens are wood–fired, and the pizza cooks on its stainless paddle (included with all our pizza ovens).
What heat will my pizza oven reach?
Just like cooking on a BBQ, it is difficult to give exact figures, as it depends on which fuel you use. We can confirm, it definitely gets HOT! 🔥
What else can I cook in my pizza oven?
The amazing thing about wood–fired pizza ovens is just how versatile they are. Just like with your regular oven, you can cook pretty much anything you’d like! Purchase a grill tray, and grill kebabs, meat & sausages. You can even cook focaccia and flatbreads in there. Your pizza oven is your oyster! 😏
Can my pizza oven also work as a BBQ?
Yes, the top part from our pizza oven can go into a BBQ if its big enough. We actually sell just the top on its own as a Pizza Oven BBQ box, check it out here.
How does a pizza oven work?
A wood–fire is lit in the back, side or centre of the oven to heat up the inner dome and hearth area (mass). The oven will retain the heat to create optimum cooking temperatures long after the flame is exhausted. You can start cooking at any stage and the best way is to put on your chef’s hat and just try it! 👨🏽🍳👩🏻🍳
Do you heat the pizza paddle up before you put the pizza in, or do you put it in cold?
This is a chef’s preference. We have had happy customers creating amazing pizzas both ways. It does rather depend on the sturdiness of your pizza to be able to move it onto a hot paddle. We would recommend a light flour coating on your paddle to prevent sticking.
Can I use my pizza oven when it’s cold or wet outside?
Yes! We can never be too certain with British weather, so we made our mission to make our Pizza Ovens fully useable, even in rainy weather. As long as you’re OK with getting a little wet in the process! 🌧
Can I use my pizza oven as a fire pit?
Yes! Our Single Pizza Ovens are multi-purpose and can be used as a Fire Pit! 🔥 When you’ve finished cooking your pizza, just remove the top, and hey presto! A perfect addition to any garden, camping holidays, and trips with family and friends. 🏕
Can I have my pizza oven on the floor without a stand?
Can you place the pizza oven on a wooden table?
We highly recommend you NOT to do this. If you would like to place it on a wooden table then it is imperative the pizza oven is on a protective barrier. This is due to the high temperature. The best way to place your oven is on a Pizza Oven Stand.
Do the pizza oven legs get very hot?
Yes, the legs will get hot due to the transfer of heat, so we do not recommend sitting the oven on anything flammable. Safety first!
How should I store my pizza oven?
We have weatherproof covers in a variety of colours available to order if you wish to keep it outside. Whether you like grey, white or even green, we have a cover for you! If you do not wish to keep your oven outside, we recommend storing in a dry place when not in use.
What does the pizza oven need in terms of ventilation?
Our pizza ovens are just like BBQ’s, so they need to be able to draw in air to keep the fire burning. If you cover the holes around the bottom of the fire pit you may affect the draw of the air flow and it could reduce your burn.
How should I clean my pizza oven?
Cleaning your pizza oven is as easy as 1, 2, 3. The pizza oven is stainless steel and can be washed by hand with water and washing up liquid. The firepit can be brushed down. 🧼
The paddle is made of hard food grade stainless steel. To clean, we recommend giving it a nice soak and a scrape or personally, we use a scotch bright pad or wire wool cleaning sponges. The scotch bright pad can be rubbed over the whole paddle and if you go in the same direction, it scratches a grain effect onto it. 💁🏼♀️

How do you use a baking steel for pizza?
1. Place the Pizza Steel in the Oven. The first thing you want to do is to place your pizza steel in the oven, on the top rack.
2. Preheat the Pizza Steel. The next step is to turn on the oven and preheat the pizza steel for at least 45 minutes to 1 hour.
3. Get the Pizza Ready. Now it’s time to get your pizza ready. At this stage, it’s super important for you to NOT overtop your pizza! You want it to be thin and don’t have too much sauce, cheese, or topping, so it can bake faster. More moisture from sauce and toppings will increase the baking time because more water needs to evaporate before the crust can start to crisp up.
4. Transfer your Pizza into the oven. The next step is to move the pizza from the working surface, at which you prepared it, into the oven. The best way to do this is using a pizza peel.
When your pizza is ready, drizzle a little bit of semolina or flour on the peel, before you slide the pizza onto it. This will make sure the pizza doesn’t stick to the peel.
5. Bake the Pizza. Depending on the temperature of your oven and how thick your pizza steel is, the pizza should be done in 5-10 minutes.
Is a baking steel better than a stone?
In our opinion, yes! Our range of Pizza Baking Steel products will have you making the stone-baked effect in a shorter time and at a lower cost!
Cooking your Pizza whether in your Pizza Oven or domestic oven is enhanced with a Pizza Steel, transferring and retaining heat more efficiently than a Pizza Stone.
A Baking Steel can also cook a pizza up to 30 percent faster than a baking stone, and the faster a pizza cooks, the crispier its crust will be, while its interior crumb stays moist and tender, not dried-out or tough.
